Map of the Portuguese Coastal route

Here's a map of the Portuguese Coastal route, highlighted in yellow.  Starting in Porto (Portugal) and proceeding north along the coast, turning slightly inland after Vigo (Spain) and continuing north into Santiago de Compostela.  The route is approximately 170 miles and takes 13 days.

How did I get here?

 I've hiked a Camino previously, in May 2019.  It took me 16 days to travel from Leon in northern Spain almost directly west to Santiago de Compostela where the remains of St. James are supposedly buried.  And then another four days to hike to Finisterre on the coast, where I proceeded to lose my phone.  (That's one of my better Camino stories, but I'll save that for another time.)  Hiking the Camino was one of the greatest experiences in my life.  The scenery was great, but it's really about the people you meet.  All ages, locations, walks of life.  I basically hop-scotched across northern Spain for two weeks with a South Korean woman I met.  It's how the Camino works...you see some of the same people for several days, then never see them again.  Or see the same people all the way. Anyway, I kept thinking I'd do another Camino or hike some day.  And I completed part of the Fife Coastal Path in May 2023.  So this is in my blood...

Kendrick Peak hike

 Hiked Kendrick Peak this morning. Didn't get to the top, or even to the cabin. Made it to the 3.56 mile mark, almost to the saddle. Great day for hiking, in the 60s with a breeze. Never saw anyone until I got back to the Trailhead. Two people in a Jeep. No exciting wildlife, outside of birds and ground squirrels.  Great views of San Francisco Peaks and the surrounding area! The wind whispering it's melody through the trees, the scent of pine trees in the air. Invigorating. I think the altitude was starting to get me when I turned around. I figure I was at about 9800' or so. Discretion is the better part of valor. I c could've gone on to the cabin at 4+ miles but it wasn't worth it. A little dusty coming in Mullein

Why?

 First, the good news.  There's a Hawaiian-themed night during my Camino journey.  I didn't have a Hawaiian shirt to wear, so ordered one through House of Target.  It came today.  See what you think of my choice.  So far it's getting good reviews among friends and those in the group. Now the disturbing part, at least for me.  Among the WhatsApp exchanges were politically-oriented posts from one of the members in Australia.  "Can you vote correctly the next time?" "Buddy, I tried!" "Same here."  "Same here." "Same here."  I totally understand people's politics, but one of the reasons I enjoy the "hiking bubble" is the LACK  of politics.  To me, we're all just people, at least on the trail.  I'll respect your beliefs.  But if I'm excluded or basically ostracized from the group for mine?  Is that really fair?  I'm trying to get away  from the noise, not be engulfed in it.  The exchange really depre...
